1. Why did you choose to go abroad?
I chose to go abroad because I wanted to gain international professional experience, improve my English skills, and discover a new culture. Working in the United States is a great opportunity to expand my knowledge in fiber optics and photonics while developing both personally and professionally.
2. How does the US culture differ from your culture and what has impressed you most so far?
One of the biggest differences I noticed is the strong culture of independence and personal responsibility in the United States. What has impressed me the most is how welcoming, respectful, and helpful people are. I also appreciate the cultural diversity and the opportunities available for learning and professional growth.
3. Could you take us for a day in your life? What is your routine?
On a typical workday, I wake up early and prepare for work and my commute to my traineeship. During the day, I work on fiber optic and laser technologies, study product datasheets, perform laboratory measurements, and learn from experienced engineers. After work, I often spend time exploring the area, studying technical topics, improving my English, or staying in touch with family and friends in Algeria.
4. How has this experience abroad helped you to grow personally?
This experience has helped me become more independent, adaptable, and confident. Living in a different country has challenged me to step outside my comfort zone, solve problems on my own, and communicate with people from different backgrounds. It has also strengthened my professional skills and broadened my perspective.
5. Why would you recommend others to do a program abroad?
I would highly recommend a program abroad because it combines professional development with personal growth. It allows participants to gain valuable international experience, improve language skills, discover new cultures, and build a global network that can benefit their future careers.
